Eon Youth Program
Eon works to strengthen the gay, lesbian, bisexual, two spirit, transgender, queer, questioning, intersexed, and straight ally youth communities by creating social opportunities, providing information and support on health issues, advocating for youth rights and challenging society’s perceptions of youth as they face institutionalized oppressions that target the many facets of their identities. Our events and activities are free of charge and open to all youth ages 23 and under.
Eon’s Activities, Events, and Services
The Eon “Lounge” drop-in center, located on 7th Street and 4th Avenue, is a safe hangout space for youth 23 and under. In addition to a small library, computer stations, games, music and art, the Eon Lounge has a wide variety of information and resources for youth. For information, please call 520-624-1779. Before participating in program activities, interested youth must meet with staff to complete an Eon Orientation, familiarize themselves with the Lounge, and ask questions about Eon and its programs. New youth orientations are held on Wednesdays from 3:00 to 4:00pm. If you cannot attend the Wednesday orientations and are interested in becoming a part of Eon or in learning more about Eon programs and services, please contact us or stop by during our regular drop-in hours. Our drop-in hours are: Monday through Friday: 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm and Saturday from 12pm-3pm Closed Sunday
We have discussion and support groups almost every day in the Lounge for youth who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, and their allies. The focus of each group ranges from general support, to fostering independent living skills, to peer advising. Please contact us for an overview of available groups. You can also visit our Calendar of Events for additional information regarding meeting times and updates.
P.R.E.P. (Positive Respectful Educational Possibilities), is the Eon Youth Lounge’s tutoring program. P.R.E.P. volunteers can provide one-on-one assistance with homework and coursework, standardized exams, college preparation and planning, and job skills like resume writing and interviewing. Youth will need to refer to the monthly event calendar for dates and times for tutoring. It is drop in tutoring, so no appointments can be made via phone. If you have any questions regarding the P.R.E.P. program on what subjects the tutors can help with, please contact Kevin Jackson, Homeless Youth Project Coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Leadership Development training workshops and annual leadership retreats are organized by and for Eon youth. These sessions are designed to promote skill development so that youth can be more actively involved in their communities.
In addition to hanging out in the Lounge, we have frequent social activities on Friday nights and throughout the year, including “Eon Idol” Karaoke, Gender Bender/Club Eon Nights, Queer Prom, Game Night, Movie Night, and Cafe Chat. Let us know if you want to be added to the Eon Listserv to receive special event updates and our monthly calendar. For more information about our social activities and becoming part of Eon, please contact Kevin Jackson, Homeless Youth Project Coordinator, at email@example.com.
