Mission

Wingspan’s Senior Programs recognize and respond to the unique concerns of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) seniors, age 55+ and their younger allies, by creating volunteer, social, and educational opportunities for senior LGBT people, increasing awareness of LGBT aging issues, and developing age-appropriate, LGBT friendly information and referral services.

Activities

Senior Tea Dance

Wingspan’s Senior Program serves members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community who are 55+ and their younger allies. Senior Program volunteers assist with all Wingspan programs.

Senior Forum

The Senior Forum is a monthly newsletter highlighting information and activities that are of interest to the senior community. The paper copy is intended for people who do not have access to a computer and email and for distribution in the community at large. Volunteers help write, design, print and distribute the copies. To see the current Senior Forum, click the link below. Old issues of the Senior Forum may be viewed from the link on the left or click here.

Senior Pride Volunteers

Senior Pride volunteers create social events such as potlucks, poetry readings, picnics and storytelling; organize educational opportunities for seniors and their allies by hosting timely forums on topics of interest such as Medicare changes and conscious aging; offer computer coaching and teach art classes; and strengthen all other Wingspan programs by sharing their expertise.

Rainbow Train volunteers

Rainbow Train volunteers are specially trained to conduct educational cultural competency trainings for individuals and agencies providing service to older adults. The trainings support providers in becoming better able to meet the unique needs of LGBT seniors. Volunteers participate in 2-day in-depth Train the Trainers preparation in order to become ambassadors to the larger community.

Information and Referral Services

Information and Referral services provide information related to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender senior issues to the community. Seniors may access information by calling 520-624-1779 from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm to get in-person assistance, by going to the Resource Links section of our website or by using our InfoLink system.  Seniors may check out books, videos and magazines of interest from Wingspan’s lending library at the Center. Referrals to elder services are always provided. If we can’t help, we know who can!
