Press Conference on Cuts to Victim Suvivor Programs

A press conference has been scheduled to raise public awareness about the proposed state cuts to services for crime victim survivors. Wingspan would be one of many organizations affected by these cuts.

The press conference will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 11 am, in the front courtyard at the Pima County Consolidated Justice Court, 115 N. Church Ave.

The state legislature intends to cut funds designed to help victims of crime recover from their trauma and victimization. Victim survivors will be at the press conference to share their stories and talk about the impact that cuts to these funds would have on them and other families who are victimized.

The Crime Victim Assistance and Compensation funds come from fines and fees collected from convicted criminals. These funds are not taxpayer monies. The Arizona legislature is attempting to take these funds designated for victims in an effort to balance the state budget. The legislature has already taken a significant amount of these funds and propose to take more. Any further cuts will result in severe reductions in services and financial supports for crime victims.
